“KOSOVO” MEN'S CHOIR PERFORMS AT THE AMPHITHEATER
IN HERCEGOVINA'S GRACANICA

To the delight of the citizens of Trebinje and it's visitors the men's choir “Kosovo” from Ohio (USA) gave a concert on Sunday August 17, 2008 at the amphitheater at the Church of Hercegovina's Gracanica in Crkvina, during their annual days of festivities of the feast of the Transfiguration.

The Serbian men's choir “Kosovo”, directed by Dr. Rick Zivic, is made up of members living in northeastern Ohio. The choir was formed in February 1994 and at the time had eleven members living between the cities Cleveland and Akron. That they might preserve the honor and memory of the southern Serbian region, the heart of Serbian Orthodoxy they took as their name – Kosovo.

Since 1994 the choir has grown into a regional choir with more than thirty members and their repertoire includes Orthodox spiritual hymns but also Serbian and Slavic ethnic songs. Though they are not professional musicians, their persisting desire in preserving the Serbian cultural identity has kept them together for thirty years, which includes three generations of singers born, for the most part, in the United States of America. They have recorded four CDs of spiritual and ethnic music. They have received many awards, including the prestigious Award for contribution to culture and the arts given by Cuyahoga County for performing and preserving ethnograhic songs which contributes to the area's cultural richness.

The choir has performed throughout the US and Canada. They have performed before His Holiness Patriarch Pavle, Metropolitan Vladimir of St. Petersburg from Russia, His Royal Highness Prince Aleksandar Karadjodjevic and Princess Catherine, Senator George Voinovich and many others.
