FESTIVE CELEBRATION OF THEOPHANY AT
HOLY RESURRECTION CATHEDRAL IN CHICAGO

Chicago, IL – With the Blessings of His Eminence Metropolitan +Christopher, the Feast of the Theophany of our Lord Jesus Christ, marking His Baptism in the River Jordan when the “worship of the Trinity was made manifest,” was festively celebrated today at Holy Resurrection Serbian Orthodox Cathedral in Chicago, Illinois, with a Hierarchical Divine Liturgy celebrated by His Grace Bishop Dr. +Maxim of Western America, and concelebrated by the Very Reverend Protojerej-Stavrophor Fr. Dennis Pavichevich, Cathedral Dean Fr. Darko Spasojevic, Fr. Radovan Jakovljevic, Fr. Vasilije Vranic, and Deacon Damjan S. Bozic. Mr. Jovan Anicic led the faithful in singing the liturgical responses from the chanter’s stand.

The joy of this Great Feast was heightened by the presence of all the students, teachers, and administrators of St. Sava Academy, together with scores of parishioners, who gathered for the Divine Liturgy and Great Blessing of Waters.

In a short homily on today’s Feast, His Grace Bishop Dr. +Maxim explained that the Theophany is significant because it demonstrates that the purpose of Christ’s mission while He was on earth, and when He voluntarily undertook to be baptized even though He was sinless, was the consecration of all Creation. Thus, it is fitting that water should be consecrated during the Divine Liturgy – the “mystagogical union” of the Church that is served and offered so that all people may be consecrated by partaking the Precious Body and Blood of Christ.

After the Divine Liturgy, His Grace Bishop Dr. +Maxim, the Cathedral Clergy, and guests, joined the children and teachers of St. Sava Academy for an Agape Luncheon at which Academy Principal Mr. Marko Bojovic greeted the distinguished guest from California with eloquent words of welcome.
