SOLEMN CELEBRATION OF HOLY WEEK AT CHICAGO CATHEDRAL

Chicago, IL -
In solemn witness of the Lord’s voluntary approach to the Cross on Golgotha for the salvation of mankind, Holy Resurrection Serbian Orthodox Cathedral in Chicago, Illinois, has prayerfully marked the events of Holy Week with Presanctified Liturgies and Bridegroom Matins services on Holy Monday and Tuesday. On Holy Wednesday, when the Church remembers the anointing of the Lord’s feet with myrrh by the repentant woman and Judas’ plotting to betray the Son of God to the lawless authorities, the day began with a Liturgy of Presanctified Gifts and ended with the service of the Sacrament of Healing and Anointing with Holy Unction which a large number of parishioners attended.

On Holy Thursday, when the Mystery of Holy Communion was instituted by our Lord at His Last Supper and when He was arrested and judged, a Vesperal Liturgy of St. Basil the Great was served in the morning, and Matins with the reading of the 12 Gospel lessons of the Passion of the Lord will be served this evening at 7 P.M.

On Holy and Great Friday, when Jesus Christ was crucified, died, and buried, three services will be celebrated at the Cathedral: Royal Hours at 10 AM that mark the Lord’s suffering on the Cross, Vespers and Adorning of the Shroud (Plashtanica) at 4 PM that marks the taking down of the most Precious Body of our Lord from the Cross and burial by the Noble Joseph of Arimathea, and Matins at 7 PM with the Lamentations of the Mother of God and Procession of the Shroud, signifying His descent into Hades.

WE WORSHIP YOUR PASSION, O CHRIST! SHOW US ALSO YOUR GLORIOUS RESURRECTION!
