VLADE DIVAC VISITS METROPOLITANATE OF MIDWESTERN AMERICA

Libertyville, IL - The famed Serbian basketball player Vlade Divac visited His Eminence Metropolitan Christopher of the Midwestern American Metropolitanate on Thursday, April 9, 2009. Vlade has been an acquaintance of His Eminece and has stayed in touch with him for the past twenty years. In the pleasant setting of the metropolitan's office Vlade Divac informed His Eminence of his current and future plans with the humanitarian organization HOD (Humanitarian Organization Divac) which he has been successfully running, together with his wife Ana, for some years now.  He reminded His Eminence that the country of Serbia has the largest number of refugees in all of Europe and thousands of them live without the basic standards for living.

“Their homes were burned during the last war and they have no where to go back to. Their homes now are shacks which can be found throughout Serbia. The goal of the HOD organization is to gather enough funds in order to help these people, that they secure them a normal standard of living as well as help them buy homes,” said Divac.

Participating in this organization are: Zarko Paspalj, Sasa Danilovic, Sasa Djordjevic, Savo Milosevic, Dejan Bodiroga, Zoran Savic, Pedja Stojakovic and many others.

Vlade and Ana were joined by Serbian Consul General Desko Nikitovic. After words of support and spiritual guidance His Eminence invited the guests to view the St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Theological College were currently there are twenty four students who are zealously studying.  The students were evidentally surprised and with smiles they welcomed the “Serbian legend”, asking to be photographed with him.

A group picture was taken at the school with His Eminence Metropolitan Christopher along with visiting professor His Grace Bishop Dr. Mitrophan, who travelled from Pennsylvania in order to conduct a series of lectures at the school.
