MEMORIAL FOR PERSECUTIONS OF NEW MARTYRS

Milton, Ontario - On Sunday, August 7, on the feast of the Dormition of Righteous Anna, the Holy Hierarchical Divine Liturgy was celebrated at the Holy Transfiguration Monastery in Milton, Ontario officiated by His Grace Bishop Georgije of Canada. Concelebrating with the bishop were: V. Rev. Vasa Pejovic from Kichener, V. Rev. Milojko Dimitric from London, Rev. Milos Puric from Toronto, Hieromonk Vasilje, the abbot of the monastery and Deacon Stefan Ikonomovsky and Deacon Damjan Radojcic.

V. Rev. Miroljub Todorovic delivered the homily on the gospel reading of the miraculous feeding of five thousand of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Following the Prayer before the Ambon a Parastos service was held for all Serbian new martyrs, persecuted in Hercegovina and Krajina as well as in the past wars in the regions of Serbian Krajina, Baranje, Lika, Kordun, Banija, Krbave...as well as those persecuted in Kosovo and Metohija during which more than a thousand names were read. A very touching homily was delivered by Bishop Georgije about the sufferings and persecutions of our Serbian people after the liturgy.

Following church services this year's great sabor was held on the monastery grounds with many faithful in attendance. At the same time an exhibit was opened in the Diocesan museum of the icons and pictures of Vladimir Stjepanovic Gabalic, a well known artist from Toronto. The exhibit will be open until Transfiguration, August 19.
