METROPOLITAN AMPHILOHIJE BEGAN HIS SECOND CANONICAL VISIT
TO THE DIOCESE OF BEUNOS AIRES AND SOUTH AND CENTRAL AMERICA



Buenos Aires - His Eminence Amphilohije, Archbishop of Cetinje and Metropolitan of Montenegro and the Coastlands arrived on Saturday, August 11, 2012 in Argentina for his second canonical visit to the Diocese of Beunes Aires and South and Central America of the Serbian Patriarchate, of which he currently serves as administrator.

At the Ministro Pistarini Airport in Buenos Aires, the metropolitan was welcomed by a delegation from the local community which consisted of the Serbian Ambassador to Argentina Gordana Vidovic, Fr. Bosko Stojanovic, parish priest in Buenos Aires, Protodeacon Nikola Radis, the president of the church board and Branislav Markovic, church board member.

The metropolitan was accompanied by new clergy who will shortly be assigned to parishes in Argentina.

On Sunday, August 12 the metropolitan served at the Nativity of the Most Holy Theotokos Cathedral in Buenos Aires with the concelebration of the clergy and participation of a number of faithful after which a meal was served.

In his homily the metropolitan spoke of the Venerable Mother Angelina, whose feast was on that day, the upcoming Dormition Fast and he informed the faithful of the new clergy sent by the Patriarchate to South America.

Concelebrating with His Eminence were two priests who will be assigned parishes in Argentina: Branko Stanisic, who will be assigned to the St. Nicholas Church in Machagai, in the Chaco province and Isajlo Markovic, who will be assigned to the St. Archangel Michael Church in Venado Tuerto, Santa Fe province.  

Fr. Sasa Djurdjevic has already assumed duties in the Venezuela parish and Fr. Dusan Mihailovic has recently arrived in Chile where he will assume duties at the St. Bishop Nikolai of Ohrid and Zicha Church.

Metropolitan Amphilohije will, as before, visit a number of South American parishes and Orthodox communities, he will meet with other local Orthodox and state officials.

On Wednesday, August 15th, on the feast of the Transfer of the Relics of St. Stephen the Protomartyr and Archdeacon, the metropolitan will serve at the St. Sava Church in Buenos Aires and on Saturday he will take part in the consecration of a vicar bishop of the Ecumenical Patriarchate who will assist Metropolitan Tarasije of Buenos Aires.

While traveling through Germany the metropolitan visited the St. Spyridon Skete in Geilnau, near Frankfurt, under the jurisdiction of the Diocese of Central Europe of the Serbian Orthodox Church, and whose abbot is a Swiss man, Archimandrite Vasilije.
This is the metropolitan's third visit to South America and the second as administrator-bishop of our Diocese in South America.
