BISHOP PORPHYRIUS VISITS ST. HERMAN OF ALASKA MONASTERY
IN PLATINA, CALIFORNIA

Platina, CA -
After his visit at the eleventh annual Diocesan Days in Jackson from August 31 to September 2, 2007 Bishop Dr. Porphyius of Egar (Serbia) together with his host Bishop Maxim of Western America, visited the St. Herman of Alaska Monastery in Platina in northern California on Monday, September 3, 2007.

The Holy Hierarchical Divine Liturgy was served on Monday morning with Bishop Maxim officiating, assisted by Metropolitan Joseph (Bulgarian Patriarchate) and Bishop Porphyrius and twenty priests and hieromonks. One hundred and fifty faithful were in attendance.

Following the liturgy a Panakhyda to the reposed hieromonk Seraphim (Rose) at his grave.

At the conclusion of the service Bishop Maxim greeted those in attendance and among other things reminded the faithful of the apostolic-patristic faith in the Resurrection of the entire man, soul and body, in contrast to the conviction that the belief in the immortality of the soul is sufficient. He also commented that the words “Memory eternal” in our prayers petition on God’s “memory”, on His eternal remembering, without which nothing in this world would exist.

Following the agape feast the guests left for Los Angeles.
