BEGINNING OF THE CHURCH SCHOOL YEAR AT CHICAGO CATHEDRAL
Visit of His Grace Bishop Longin

Chicago, IL -
Today, on the feast of the Synaxis of Serbian Saints, the new Church School year was festively and prayerfully inaugurated at Holy Resurrection Serbian Orthodox Cathedral in Chicago, Illinois.

With the blessings of His Holiness Serbian Patriarch Irinej, administrator of the Metropolitanate of Libertyville-Chicago, the Holy Hierarchical Liturgy and Invocation of the Holy Spirit was celebrated by His Grace Bishop Longin of New Gracanica-Midwestern America with the concelebration of episcopal deputy Very Reverend Fr. Dennis Pavichevich, Cathedral dean Reverend Fr. Darko Spasojevic, Reverend Fr. Radovan Jakovljevic, Reverend Fr. Vasilije Vranic, Protodeacon Fr. Milovan Gogic, and Deacon Fr. Damjan Bozic.

Addressing the gathered faithful, Bishop Longin interpreted the day's Gospel lesson on the parable about the talents, speaking of the need to use and multiply our spiritual gifts as individuals and community, for the good of our Holy Mother Church.  Thus, His Grace added, religious education is exceptionally important because it nurtures together with the blessed efforts of parents, teachers, and the community the formation of future generations as complete and healthy persons, faithful to the ideals of their ancestors.

A great number of children enrolled in the Cathedral Church School together with their parents partook of Communion with the Holy and Lifegiving Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ.

After the Divine Services, the church community of the Chicago Cathedral organized a picnic for all parishioners and guests with a wide range of children's activities.
