DIVINE LITURGY AND SLAVA AT ST. STEVAN’S CATHEDRAL IN LOS ANGELES


Alhambra, CA - On Sunday, September 30, 2007, the St. Stevan Cathedral of Los Angeles celebrated their Patron Saint, St. Sefan Prvovencani (First Crowned), the Monk Simon. The Holy Hierarchical Divine Liturgy began at 10am with His Grace Bishop Maxim of Western America officiating and assisted by the clergy. Clergy serving were V. Rev. Stavrophor Nikola Ceko (the cathedral dean), Ilija Dajkovic, Bozidar Draskovic, Norman Kosanovic and heirodeacon Jovan (Stanojevic).

His Grace, the bishop, delivered the homily during the liturgy and awarded certain esteemed parishioners of St. Stevan’s with the distinguished Episcopal Gramata.

A procession around the church followed the liturgy, during which a memorial service (pomen) was completed for all deceased clergy and parishioners.

The Slava Kolach was cut at the formal Slava banquet in the large church hall. Besides the clergy and bishop, Srdja Trifkovic was also among the speakers. Stipends were awarded to the best students during the banquet.
