METROPOLITAN AMPHILOHIJE IN BRAZIL


Brazil - In the continuation of the visit to Orthodox church communities of the newly-founded Diocese of Buenos Aires and South-Central America of the Serbian Patriarchate, His Eminence Archbishop of Cetinje and Metropolitan of Montenegro and the Littoral Amfilohije these days is visiting Brazil.

At first, on November 24 and 25 he met with a few our emigrants in the greatest Brazilian city of Sao Paulo and began first agreements on founding of the Church community, which has been planned for thirty years in this city.

In Sao Paulo the Serbian-Brazilian club (founded in 1949) has existed for a half a century, which has gathered all emigrants of the Orthodox faith from the region of ex-Yugoslavia for decades. In last few years the club has been in a financial crisis, thus the Management of the club was forced to sell the last Club's building.The community is small, but since the fast development of this city and the arrival of young, mostly educated people, in the folollowing period one will need a better and firm ties. For this purpose a structure of the first Church committee of the missionary parish of St. Peter and Paul was agreed.

Metropolitan also met in Sao Paulo Jose Guillermo de Godoy Piñeiro, the honorary consul of the Republic of Serbia in this city.

After Sao Paulo, Metropolitan on Saturday November 26, arrived in Recife, the two-million town on the Northeast of Brazil in which there are two Orthodox parishes with three priests of the Serbian Patriarchate.

Metropolitan was welcomed at the airport by priests, led by protopresbyter-staurophor Dr Alexos Peña-Alfaro, the university professor and hierarchal deputy of Brazil, as well as archpriest Rafael Carlos Frederico Santos, retired priest Elijah Ned Cavalcanti Lima, abbot Pedro Sigueira and monk Jovan, Brazilian, recently became a monk in Montenegro. The community in Recife consists of the Orthodox believers Brazilians.Last week, on Wednesday November 23, Metropolitan visited Metropolitan Platonos of Argentina and South America of the Moscow Patriarchate in the Cathedral church of the Annunciation of the Most Holy Theotokos in Buenos Aires.
